Newborn In-home photography sessions FAQ

In-home newborn photography sessions are for families who prefer to stay home with their brand new baby, but still be able to get a beautiful photography experience with lifestyle family portraits and newborn portraits. There are many questions when it comes to finding the perfect photographer. I wrote a few things on my previous blog, which you can read here https://simplyphotostudiollc.com/2022/01/28/looking-for-the-perfect-newborn-maternity-photographer/

What to expect during your in-home newborn photography session.

When you book your newborn photography session with me, you get the option to do your sessions at a beautiful studio in Cary North or from the comfort of your own home to help you decide which option best fits your needs. I always ask my clients to visualize the final product. For example, would you prefer a plain white wall as a background or your baby’s nursery? Here are some examples for you

Booking an in-home newborn gets you the best of both worlds, with lifestyle family portraits & portraits of your baby in cute poses and props. I will bring my studio equipment, which allows me to create stunning images, that will appear as if they were taken in a studio.

What does lifestyle mean?

Lifestyle means documentary, genuine, organic, and true to life. I will direct you, but it will be mostly about what is really in front of the camera. I focus on capturing the small details, connections, and just the love you share as a family.

Do you travel to my area?

I bring my studio to Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Hillsborough, Garner, Fayetteville, Goldsboro, and La grange. I am telling you we love to travel and will go almost anywhere.

When should I book my session?

I recommend booking your newborn photography session when you are 25-35 weeks pregnant. I know this seems early; however, I do book fast, and you need to secure your date. We will reserve your due date and will adjust once the baby arrives.

When will the session take place?

After your baby is born, we will decide on a date that falls within your baby’s first two weeks. I ask that you contact me as soon as the baby is born; I’ve had clients surprise me with a cute phone picture of their new baby, and to be honest, this is one of my favorite things ever!
How long will the session take?
Newborn photography sessions generally take around 2-3 hours. It just depends on your baby; it gives us time for nursing/feeding, diaper changes, etc.

What should I wear? Should I wear shoes?

These two questions always come together! What to wear is essential, but don’t worry when you book with me; you get a beautiful style guide, styling tips, and a curated studio wardrobe to choose from, and it is available to you when you book. It is convenient as I bring your favorite options with me, and you get to try them on before the session and decide which pieces that work best for you.
Shoes? Nope, you do not need shoes. Who likes to wear shoes at home? Nobody!

What if my home isn’t gorgeous and my baby’s nursery is not ready?

Your home is perfect! It doesn’t matter if it’s not clean or super organized, hey! You just had a baby. No problem; once I arrive at your home, I will do a small walkthrough. I will take a look at each room and will decide which rooms we will use; if I see something that can be too distracting, I will make sure to ask if it’s ok to move it out of the way, or I will utilize a lens that will allow me to avoid capturing things that are distracting or “not as pretty.” Natural light, not having huge windows with the best natural light is no problem for me as I bring my lights which can mimic wonderful dreamy light.
Nursery is a pretty big part of in-home newborn photography sessions, but that doesn’t mean it has to be perfect; even if it’s not ready, I will make sure to capture some images there, or we don’t have to. It is entirely up to you.

What to expect during the shoot?

Once I arrive at your home, I will do a small walkthrough here. I will look at each room and decide which ones we will incorporate; once I do this, I will usually choose a space to set up my tiny studio when I will do the posed newborn portraits, I will bring my props in plastic totes and will set them down in that area. We will begin with lifestyle family portraits. Secondly, I will capture images with each parent/sibling and baby, and lastly, I will move on to baby alone portraits.
In-home newborn photography sessions are flexible, the most comfortable & allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds with lifestyle family portraits and posed images of your beautiful baby.
I travel all over Eastern North Carolina. Bringing the studio to the comfort of your own home allows me to document authentic images for you that your family will cherish for years to come.
